Home economics at WGBH Boston

Home Economics, the report released by the National Domestic Workers Alliance, continues to shape discourse and policy proposals. Last night, domestic workers gathered at Boston's WGBH for a panel discussion moderated by Maria Hinojosa of Futoro Media Group. The panel was called, Domestic Workers: Getting to Know the People Caring for Your Family.

Panelists Barbara Young of NDWA, Lydia Edwards lawyer at the Brazilian Immigrant Center, Olga Piox of MataHari, and Alicia Mazzarini of the Boston Nanny Centre spoke freely of their experiences in this sector. Over and over again, stories revealed that domestic workers are not covered by labor laws, and are often exposed to abusive employer conditions.

This is particularly relevant in MA right now, as this movement mobilizes to pass a protection bill for domestic workers.
